Today we run two horses on
the beach at Laytown.
Time Travel runs in the
second race at 5.35. It is his
first race this season as he
has had a breathing
operation. We hope the 7
furlong isn't to short for him
and are hopeful of a good
run.
Enigma Code also runs in the
second last race at 7.05. He
has been disappointing in his
last two runs on very soft
ground. We think he will run
much better tonight on the
faster surface. If he runs up
to form we think he can go
very close.
Lets hope all goes well.

This year we are really looking forward
to the Point to Point season. We have
only ever brought one horse to a Point
to Point, Gracious Courtier who should
have won the first day for us but fell
when in front at the second last. In his
next run he was well clear only to be
reeled in over the last and finished
second. We currently have about 20
horses to go to war with for this
season. We will be starting some of our
better horses of in Points this year
before going back to the track. We will
be hopeful Gaspar will be fit for the
first Point to Point meeting. He will go
in the Open while Gracious Courtier
will go in the Maiden. We have a lot of
new younger horses this year that will
also be heading for Points and we have
been very pleased with them so far.
New arrivals at Hilltop Racing Stables
|
Five new horses have arrived today
from the sales at Tattersalls. We
bought them yesterday and are
delighted with them. They are a very
nice bunch with four 3 y o's and one
4 y o. We bought three fillies and two
geldings.
They are all unbroken but we will get
to work on them straight away before
letting them out for a break. They will
be backed within the next few days (as
soon as they settle into their new
homes.)
We have not got owners for them all
yet so if your interested please email
James@hilltop-racingstables.com.

Time Travel ran well last
night finishing in fourth
place. It was his first run for
over a year and we were
very pleased with him. He
will be a lot sharper for the
run next time out.
Enigma code was
disappointing once again. He
ran well to a point and then
dropped away. We will have
to get him checked by the
vet as he seems fine at home
and was working very well
before the race.
Two new horses have arrived to us this afternoon from owner Mick Rogers. Mick already has Gracious Courtier with us from last year and has sent us a nice Flemensfirth horse named Coldwinters that has only ran once in a Point to Point. We will get him going straight away so he will be ready for Points to Points soon.
The other horses has come fit from racing. Her name is Simply Splendid and she has been placed 3rd in a bumper at Dundalk. She is rated low now over hurdles so maybe she will win a mares hurdle.
|
Another grey horse has arrived in the
yard today to make it our fourth grey
horse in the yard now. He is a nice big
2 y o by Act One. He looks like a nice
atlethlic horse. He is for a new owner
and we are greatful to have him. The
more horses we have in training the
better the chance we have of winning.
We will try to get a run into him before
the flat season ends and there is
Dundalk aswell.
Fourth Grey Horse in Yard
|
Jim has bought a new hay
steamer for the yard. James
feels it is very important to
make sure all hay the horses
eat is dust free. We find it
hard to find good hay now
(Not surprising with all the
bad weather we have had
over the last few Summers.)
The Steamer will be a great
addition to us now as it
insures all the dust is
remove. We just have to put
the hay in and it is done
within a hour.

Merdeka the one time
favourite for the Royal & Sun
Alliance at Cheltenham has
arrived today. When with
Tom Taaffe he thought he
would be his next Gold Cup
winner after Kicking King.
He is the winner of four races
including a Group Two hurdle
at Naas. He also won a
bumper, a maiden hurdle and
a beginners chase.
James went to collect him this
morning.We will be bringing
him Cross Country and
maybe hunting to try sweeten
him up a bit.We have bought
him to go Point to Pointing
and hopefully he still has
some of his old ability to win
Opens. If he is up to winning
his Opens we will go Hunter
Chasing.
All going well and if he does
come back to his old form he
could go for the big Hunter
Chases at Cheltenham &
Aintree. (With a bit of luck).

Time Travel runs again
tomorrow at Dundalk. He is in
the second division of the
handicap (50-70) over 7f
again. He will be partnered
by champion jockey Pat
Smullen. He has come out of
his race last week very well
and we are hopeful of a good
run. The race starts at
6.55pm.
Hopefully he can go close.
07 Sept 2009
Time Travel ran poor last
night. Pat said that he needs
alot further. He said to step
him up to at least 1m 2f
maybe even 1m 4f. James
said last week that he
needed more than 7f but he
ran well at Laytown and the
jockey said that 7f was ok for
him. We will look for a race
for him soon, maybe even go
for a maiden hurdle. He
jumps very good.

Amarjit will now be trained at
Hilltop Racing Stables. Jim
has bought him from Jimmy
Swan and he will now race in
his orange colours. He is the
winner of 6 races (3 Flat & 3
Hurdles). He was also placed
2nd 4 times and 3rd 3 times.
Last season he hit some
good form when winning a
flat race at Downpatrick and
followed that up with a good
second beating only 1L by
King Rama who was fav for
the Galway Hudle before he
missed the race through
injury. Amarjit then put in his
best preformance to date
with a comfortable 8L win at
Down Royal carrying top
weight. We will be schooling
him over fences shortly and
hopefully he can win some
races for us now.

At present James is thinking
of running five horses.
We may run :
Mo Chailin Dhub in the
Maiden Race For 5-Y-O
Mares.
Gaspar in the Open
Lightweight Race - Novice
Riders.
Coldwinters, Gracious
Courtier & Coalami in the
Maiden Race For 6-Y-O &
Upwards Geldings.
They have all schooled over
the fences again this morning
and will have another one or
two schools next week before
the big start.

James bought two new
yearlings at Tattersalls.
The first was a lovely
chestnut colt by Tobougg
(winner of the Dewhurst) out
of the Group 1 winning mare
Belle Genius (winner of the
Moyglare). She has bred 7
winners from 8 foals and we
hope he can make it 8 from 9
in the future.
The other horse is a bay colt
by Footstepsinthesand
(winner of the 2000 guineas)
out of the winning mare La
Quinta. She was trained by
Brian Meehan. The colt is her
first foal.

25 Sept 2009
We only ran the four horses
today at Limavady Point to
Point. Coldwinters didn't
make the journey up north as
the ground was too firm. We
had mixed fortunes today (2
seconds 1 third and the other
fell when in front)
Gaspar ran a cracker in the
open to finish second to
Royal Ranger. It was his first
run for a while and his first try
at 3 miles. He made a bad
mistake at the fourth last
which may have made the
difference of a winning start
for him on the P2P circuit.
We will look for another race
for him soon.
Coalami ran the best race of
his life to finish third. He was
in second and was about to
take up the running turning
for home when he was cut off
and shuffled back. He made
a mistake at the second last
but ran on well to finish third
beating only 4l. He may go
even closer the next time with
this run under his belt.
Gracious Courtier was
running a lovely race and
jumping well when he made a
mistake and tipped over on
the second circuit. He was
fine after the race just a little
sore so we will see how he is
during the week and look for
another race for him when he
is sound.
Mo Chailin Dhub didn't
handle the ground at all.We
will leave her now till we get it
really soft before she runs
again.
26 Sept 2009
This week we have five
horses entered. We head to
Gowran Park on Friday with
three horses Time Travel,
Simply Splendid & Stromstad.
Time Travel is in the Maiden
Hurdle and is number 4 for
the ballot. This will be his first
race over obstacles and he
has schooled very well at
home. He will be much
happier going over two miles
rather than the 7f which he
ran over at Dundalk.
Simply Splendid a new horse
we got from Mick Rogers will
have her first run for us in
the handicap hurdle if she
gets in as she is number 20
for the ballot. Her form isn't
great on the track since she
was placed in a bumper but
hopefully she gets in
because she is going well at
present.
Stromstad will run in the
handicap chase and he will
love the fast ground
forecast.We haven't ran him
of late due to the heavy
ground but he is flying at
home on the gallops and we
hope he can run a nice race
off a low weight. The form of
his last win has worked out
well with the second third &
fourth all winning since.
We will be heading up north
again on Saturday to Co.
Down for the Point to Point at
Loughbrickland. Gaspar and
Coalami have been entered
again. They have both come
out of their races well and we
are looking forward to them
running again.
Gaspar will run in the open
were he may face Royal
Ranger again who beat him
into second place last
Saturday. We think he has
come on alot for the run and
hope he can reverse the
places with him this week. He
proved that he stays 3 miles
in the race aswell so we may
go a bit quicker in front next
week.
Coalami will run in the 7yo &
upwards maiden. The last
race of the day. We feel that
he was a bit unlucky last
Saturday and hope he can
make amends this week. He
got cut off at a vital stage of
the race and then made a
bad mistake at the second
last which may have cost him
the win. We always thought
he would stay 3 miles and he
proved it when running on
very well to finish third.

Gaspar ran out an
impressive winer of the Open
Point to Point at
Loughbrickland under the
champion jockey Derek O'
Connor. He was in front for
most of the way and when
the runner up came to him at
the second last he just took
off again for a comfortable 3l
win. Derek said that he done
it very easy. We may look for
another race for him in two or
three weeks time.

Merdeka to go to Taylorstown
|
Merdeka has been entered in
the Open this Saturday at
Taylorstown.
This will be his first run since
last April so he will come on
for it but we are really looking
forward to him running this
year. He is an exciting horse
for us to go Point to Pointing
with.
He is going well at home and
it would be nice for the team
if we could get a second
winner in the space of a week.

Point to Point Season Going Well
|
The Point to Point season is
going well so far. We have
only ran four horses (two of
them twice) and the results
are as follows :
1 Winner
2 Seconds
1 Third
The other two runs have
been unlucky for us as both
horses have been injured.
Gracious Courtier hurt his
knee in a fall when in front
and Coalami got injured
running last Saturday and
had to be pulled up.
With Merdeka running this
weekend and all the other
horses coming on nicely the
feeling is good in the yard.
When the ground turns soft
we will have a lot more
runners and hopefully more
winners.

The Point to Point due to be
held at Taylorstown this
Saturday has been canceled
and will now be run on
Wednesday 21st October.
This means we will have no
runners over the weekend
but Time Travel runs again
tonight at Dundalk. He is in
the last race of the evening.
Lets hope he runs well.
09 Oct 2009
Time Travel ran a great race
at Dundalk last night. He
finished 3rd in the 1m 2f
handicap. He got the trip very
well and may even stay 1m
4f. If the handicapper doesn't
put him up he will go back to
Dundalk again next week for
the last race on the card. We
are happy with all the horses
at present and they are
running well.

Gaspar won again yesterday
at Kilsheelan in the open to
make it two wins in two
weeks. This time given a
great ride from the front by
Jamie Codd he made all. It
was a better race than the
last. The Fox's Frolic finished
a length back in second. He
has won 4 Points before. Kill
Devil Hill finished a further 3l
back in third. He was a very
good horse on the track
winning a Grade 1 and been
placed in many of them.
Gaspar now qualifies for the
big Hunter Chases and we
may go down that road. We
will look for another Point or
a Hunter Chase in two or
three weeks.

So far this season he has had 3 runs 2 wins & 1 Second
|
19 Oct 2009
The H.R.S team are very
happy at the moment. All of
the horses are running well
and our strike rate in Point to
Points is increasing all the
time.
We have had 7 runners
2 Winners
2 Seconds
1 Third.
We will be heading to
Taylorstown on Wednesday
(only if the ground suits) with
Merdeka and Coldwinters
and hopefully they can keep
up the good run we are on.
Other horses who will be
running soon include one
time Derby favourite Ehsan.
We bought him from the Aga
Khan and he has won a
maiden hurdle for us in the
past. He has recovered from
an injury and we are really
looking forward to him
running. He stays well and
has been jumping fences
nicely at home. He will be
running in opens shortly.
Mo Chapall Glas is another
nice horse. He is a 4yo by
Sayarshan and is doing
everything we want of him at
the moment. We really like
him.
19 Oct 2009
We had another good day at
Taylorstown earlier. Our two
horses ran very well.
Coldwinters was just touched
off in the 5-6yo maiden
beaten 1/2 a length. It was
his first run for us. He had
run once before nearly two
years ago and finished last
for another trainer. Jamie
Codd gave him a good ride
and he will improve for the
run. He will go back up north
on Saturday week if all is well
with him.
Merdeka ran well in the
Open. He finished fourth and
Derek O Connor gave him
an nice easy ride. He has
had problems jumping before
so the main thing was for him
to get around in one piece.
He had schooled well at
home and James was happy
that his jumping wouldn't let
him down but that he may
need the run. He will come on
a lot now and we will look for
another race soon enough.
Maybe two or three weeks.

21 Oct 2009
We are heading to Thurles
on Friday with some of the
young horses for schooling
races. We find it a great way
for them to gain experience.
Eight or nine horses will
leave the yard early in the
morning. Jamie Codd &
Johnny King are arranged to
meet us there to ride them.
The races will bring them on
and they will be ready to run
in Point to Points very soon.
27 Oct 2009
Gaspar will head a team of
five heading up north to
Maralin on Saturday. We
have entered three in the
Open. Gaspar will be looking
for his third win in three runs.
This will be his hardest race
by far if most of the entries
run. He will be taking on
some of the best P2P horses
in the country. Derek or
Jamie will not be able to ride
him this weekend as they
have to ride other horses so
Johnny King will step in.
Johnny was in the yard last
week and had a spin on
Gaspar to get a feel for him.
Merdeka will run after
finishing fourth last time at
Taylorstown and they will be
joined by Aghadoe Heights
who will be having his first
run over fences.
Mo Chailin Dhub will run in
the mares maiden. We were
disappointed with her first
time out but that was down to
the fast ground. She will only
run if the ground is soft and
has schooled very well since
her last run.
We have a new horse to run
this week in Ushers Island.
He is owned by Mick Rogers
and has won a maiden Point
at Toomebridge in April 2008
but his form has been
disappointing since and he
joined us about six weeks
ago. He is a huge horse and
has been going well but we
will no more on Saturday
evening. He is in the winners
of one race.

Schooling Races went as Expected
|
The horses went as we
expected at Thurles on
Friday but the weather didn't.
It never stopped raining all
day which made the ground
very soft. Most of the horses
that James thought would run
well ran brilliant and we were
very happy with them. Two or
three of them didn't put up
much of a show and their
days might be numbered at
Hillltop Racing Stables. They
may get one more chance in
another schooling race and if
they don't improve they may
be sold on as hunters or
riding horses. The main thing
is that they all came home
safe and sound and some will
be running shortly.
31 Oct 2009
Long Term National Fences
|
It was a mixed day for the
team at Maralin on Saturday.
We didn't manage a winner
but Gaspar ran another
cracker. He finished second
to Top Twig (the only horse
to win his six Points last
season). Johnny King rode
him and was extremely
happy. Gaspar has been a
star for the team so far this
year with two wins and two
seconds from four runs.
James is thinking in the long
term of having a crack at the
Fox Hunters at Aintree over
the National fences as he
jumps so well. The Fox
Hunters is run over a trip just
short of 2m 6f which would
suit Gaspar a lot more than
the 3m he has ran over each
time this season.
In the other division of the
Open we had two runners.
Merdeka ran another solid
race and finished fourth
beaten only 6 1/2 lengths. He
seems to be slow and looks
like he may need it a bit
softer to slow the others
down a bit. He was staying on
all the way to the line and we
would be happy to say his
day will come soon enough.
Aghadoe Heights was
running a lovely race and
may have been placed only
for tipping up at the second
last. Another horse fell in
front of him and he took his
eye of the fence. Jason Mc
Keown said he was going
easy and would have been at
least third which would have
been some run considering
he hasn't ran for so long and
it was his first run over
fences. He was fine after the
fall and will run again soon
enough.
We didn't run Mo Chailin
Dhub as the ground wasn't
soft enough for her. She
traveled to the course but
James made a decision to
pull her out.
Then the day turned for the
worse. Ushers Island ran in
the winners of one and at the
second fence another horse
came across him and he
made a terrible mistake. The
horse didn't fall but as his
head came up it hit Johnny
King in the shoulder and
dislocated it. Johnny pulled
him out at the third fence but
couldn't pull him up for two
circuits. He later had to go to
Newery hospital to have his
shoulder put back into place.
Hopefully he will be alright
soon and back riding for us
again. James was extremely
happy with the positive rides
he had given Gaspar and
Merdeka.

Six For Milltown Killkenny
|
We are heading to Kilkenny
this Sunday with six horses.
James has entered four
horses in the Open and he
intends to run them all which
will make it tricky for us to
know which one has the best
chance. I suppose we will
have to stick with Gaspar as
he is in great form this
season but the other three
will have a good chance.
Aghadoe Heights was
running a lovely race last
weekend when he tipped up
and will have learned a lot
from the run. Then both
Ehsan and Spitfire Sortie are
real exciting horses for us to
go Pointing with. They both
ran in schooling races last
week at Thurles and both
went extremely well. They
have both schooled brilliant
at home. We would be
hopeful of a good run from all
four horses and just wish
they all come back safe and
sound.
Mo Chailin Dhub will run in
the Mares Maiden. She didn't
get to run last weekend as
the ground wasn't soft
enough for her but I would
doubt we will have that
problem this week. The
ground should be heavy
which will suit her and she
should run better than her
debut form shows.
Coldwinters will run in the 6yo
maiden for geldings. He was
a good second in his first
race for us two weeks ago
and he has come on for the
run. It was his first run for
nearly two years and the
horse that beat him by 1/2
length was running a good
race last weekend when he
tipped up in the winners race.
He must have a decent
chance but you never know
what is going to run in these
Maiden races.
Hopefully we can manage at
least one winner from the
three races and keep the
good run going.

05 Nov 2009
Two horses left us last night
to enjoy a new journey. They
were sold to resume their
racing careers in England.
Yeeehaa & Simone Martini
were both sold yesterday and
will be joining Milton Harris.
We hope they arrived safely
and we wish him luck and
hope they can win for him in
the near future.
Two Horses Gone To England
|
05 Nov 2009
Sunday was a great day for
the team. We had our first
one two in a race. Gaspar
put up another brilliant
performance to beat stable
companion Ehsan by 3
lengths. Gaspar keeps
showing how tough he really
is. This is his fifth race of the
season. He is the only horse
to have one three opens so
far and seems to be getting
better every run. He got his
best rating of 110+ and
everything is on course for
Aintree. Ehsan ran a blinder
for his first run for nearly two
years. He would have pushed
Gaspar very close only for a
mistake three out. Although
this was a 2&1/2 mile race he
should have no problem
getting 3mile. He will come on
for the race and will run
again next week. He will
hopefully go one better.
Spitfire Sortie also ran in the
race and we thought for a
while that we would fill the
first three places but he blew
up turning for home. We
knew he would need the race
as he is lazy at home and
doesn't kill himself at all. He
should be a lot better next
time and a step up to 3 mile
should suit.
Our other two runners
disappointed us. Mo Chailin
Dhub was running a nice
race but she got tired in the
soft ground (which she
needs). She may be sold as
a broodmare now.
Coldwinters got a very
strange ride and both owner
and trainer were not happy
after the race. He ended up
falling on the last circuit and
the least said about the race
the better. We will put it
behind us and he will run
again next week.

Were Going toBallydarragh
|
Were going to Ballydarragh
this Sunday with three
horses. Gaspar was due to
have a rest this weekend but
James has decided to let him
run as the race looks much
easier than last weeks. He
will be looking for his fourth
win of the season and we will
be disappointed if he doesn't
collect. Ehsan who finished
second to him last week will
not run and will wait for
Kirkistown next Saturday.
Gaspar will be joined in the
race by stablemate Merdeka.
He has run well both times
this season but we thought
he would be a lot better.
Hopefully he can run a nice
race but we would be very
surprised if he beat Gaspar.
Coldwinters is the other
horse running this week in
the Maiden. He is the highest
rated horse in the race and
he should run much better
than last weekend. He has
had two schooling sessions
this week and has jumped
great. We think he will go
very close.
13 Nov 2009
Gaspar won for the fourth
time this season last
weekend with an easy
victory in the Open. Although
it wasn't a great race he won
in a canter and came home
10 lengths in front. He seems
to be getting better and
better the more he runs. He
has run six times already this
season which seems a lot but
he is enjoying it so much and
doesn't do a lot at home. He
only goes out for a few
canters and James brings
him cross country most
weeks. He was due to run in
the banks race yesterday at
Lingstown but it was called
off early in the morning (lucky
enough the lorry hadn't gone
to far from the yard).
Coldwinters also ran a great
race last week to finish
second. He was giving a
lovely ride by Jamie Codd
and his win is just around the
corner. He was to run up
North on Saturday but that
was also canceled due to the
bad weather. He will run next
Saturday.
I would like to apologise that we didn't put up any news last week as we were having
problems publishing. It was an internet problem with the server.
23 Nov 2009
We have had some terrible
weather recently and it is bad
news for us. This weekends
racing was called off at both
meetings we intended to
have runners. Four horses
were to head North to
Kirkstown and Gaspar was
due to run in the banks race
at Lingstown. Both meetings
will now be held next
weekend all going well. We
are looking forward to seeing
Gaspar run over the banks
course as it may open up
more doors for him. If he runs
well he could end up running
in one of the big banks races
at Cheltenham or the
Punchestown festivals.
23 Nov 2009
We are currently working on a new website for the yard and hopefully it should be ready
in the next few weeks. It will have more videos, photos & information for you to read.
We have 4 horses heading
North on Saturday to
Kirkstown. There is a lot of
entries so some the races
may split. We have a new
horse who we think a bit of
running in the 4yo Maiden
named Mo Chapall Glas. He
has showed a nice bit at
home but we will know more
on Saturday how good he
really is. He went very well in
a schooling race and he
jumps well. Whatever
happens he will come on for
the experience.
Coldwinters runs in the 5yo
Maiden and he should go
very close again. He has
been second twice so far this
season and hopefully he can
go one better. He deserves
to get his head in front and it
would be brilliant for his
owner.
Ehsan will make his second
appearance of the season in
the Open. On his first run
over fences he finished
behind stable companion
Gaspar when we trained the
first two home. He has come
on a lot for the run but this
race looks very hot and it will
depend on what gets
declared. He will have a good
chance and we expect a
decent run from him.
Ushers Island will run in the
winners race. He broke his
jockeys collar bone last time
and had to be pulled up so
we didn't find out to much
about him. He goes alright at
home and jumps great so we
will see how he gets on. His
form is terrible of late so he
can only improve.
Lets hope we can manage
another winner or two.

Congrats To A Good Friend
|
We would like to congratulate
a good friend of Jim's, Sean
Gallagher on his winner last
night at Dundalk. Wikaala
won for him which was well
over due as he has been
running very well but kept
finding one or two too good.
We were all delighted to see
him win. We see Sean every
week at Point to Points and
hope he can manage
another winner soon enough.
We also hope that another
good friend Mark (Any News
Syndicate) has a winner
tonight at Dundalk. He is
running a new horse which
he bought at Tattersalls last
month from Dermot Weld
(Blue Ridge Lane). Mark has
had a bit of a hard time of
late so lets hope his luck
changes for the better.
27 Nov 2009
Gaspar will run again on
Sunday in the banks race. It
was canceled last week which
was alright as it gave him
extra time to rest. He is flying
at the moment, working
better than he ever has since
he has been at Hilltop (which
is a long time). We think he
will win again on Sunday
which will force him into a
nice break because James
wants to keep one more
Point in about February
before we head to Aintree.
We may think of going to
Cheltenham but that may
stretch his stamina because
it is 3m3f. Lets get this week
out of the way and we will see
what happens.
27 Nov 2009
It's not often that we talk a
horse up before he runs but
we are very excited about the
chances of Mo Chapall Glas
tomorrow in the 4yo Maiden.
He has had a schooling race
and went very well but since
then he has really growing
into a man. He was a bit of a
baby until then and his work
has been brilliant since. He is
the only horse that can get
anywhere close to Gaspar at
the moment and he nearly
beat him in a piece of work
on Tuesday morning. Jamie
Codd will ride him (which he
did in the schooling race)
and he thought he was a
really nice horse then. His
schooling has been brilliant
recently and whatever
happens tomorrow he is a
horse to follow for the future.
27 Nov 2009
Everyone at Hilltop Racing
Stables would like to
congratulate the champions
of the flat season especially
Gary Carroll who has ridden
many times for us. Johnny
Murtagh has never ridden for
us yet but hopefully he will
sometime next season.
Although Aidan was the
champion trainer for the 15th
time in a row (a genius) and
he had a brilliant season
again we have to
congratulate John Oxx on a
great season with the
amazing Sea The Stars. He
was a one in a million horse
(if anyone wants to send us a
horse like him we would be
delighted). John handled him
so well throughout the whole
season and to have him at
his peak in the Arc was
something outstanding.
27 Nov 2009
We didn't have a bad day
today but we thought we
might have done a little
better. It started bad when
Mo Chapall Glas was ridden
to far off the pace to have
any chance in the opener. He
never got competitive and
came home in his own time in
sixth place. He jumped well
enough for his first race but
he is much better than the
form shows. We will be
expecting a lot more from him
next time out.
Ehsan ran a nice race to
finish third in the Open. He
was only beaten a couple of
lengths. He made a terrible
mistake at the third last which
almost stopped him to a walk
but he ran on well near the
finish. But for that mistake we
feel he would have won. He
may go again next week at
Cork.
Ushers Island was a big let
down and will be heading out
of Hilltop this week. He ran a
shocker and we will be
sending him back to his
owners as we don't feel he is
capable of winning and don't
want his owner wasting
anymore money on him.
Coldwinters was a bit
disappointing too. He finished
fourth and ran alright but we
thought he might win. The
track was a bit tight and
didn't ride like 3 mile which
he needs so maybe that had
something to do with it as
well. He is just slow and
keeps galloping at the same
pace.
Lets hope for better luck
tomorrow with Gaspar.
We all had a terrible shock
today as Gaspar fell in the
banks race at Lingstown. The
weather was horrible and we
waited around all day till the
last race. Gaspar jumped off
in second place and soon
took up the running. He was
going very well and jumped
the banks brilliant but never
put out the landing gear
when he over jumped the
drop fence. It was heart
breaking but at least the
horse got up safe and sound.
Gaspar himself wasn't so
happy that he made such an
error and was trying to get
loose to chase after the rest
of the field but thankfully we
held on to him. He will learn
from that and will live to fight
another day maybe Cork next
week.

28 Nov 2009
We are heading all the way
to Cork on Sunday with
Gaspar and Ehsan.
Gaspar fell last week in a
banks race so he should be
better now back over normal
fences. The only problem in
that the ground is likely to be
bottomless which may not
suit. We will be holding him
up to make sure he gets the
3 miles in that sort of ground.
Ehsan will have a better
chance as he will love the
soft ground and will stay the
distance. He stays galloping
all day and he should have
won last week only for a
mistake three out.
It is a very hot race so we will
have to see what runs but if
they all do it will be some
race. All the top Point to
Pointers are entered
including Top Twig, Rule
Supreme, Dun Doire and
even the Cheltenham Fox
Hunter winner Whyso Mayo.
Other horses that are
entered are Hi Cloy and
Afistfullofdollars both
Group 1 horses of the last
few seasons.
5 Dec 2009
What a race we encountered
today. It was as many said
the best Point to Point in the
last decade and Ehsan ran
out the winner. He beat Top
Twig by 1/2 length with Dun
Doire a further 1 length back
in third. He settled nicely in
about fourth never too far off
the pace and joined Top
Twig going to the second
last. The two of them went
head to head all the way up
the long straight and jumped
the last upsides only for
Twiggy to take a slight lead
but to his credit Ehsan put
his head down and fought
back to be in front where it
counted. We knew he was a
decent horse and thought he
should have won last week.
He has only had three runs
over fences now finishing
2nd to Gaspar, 3rd last week
and today. They said this
race would make the
champion Point to Pointer of
the Autumn season so we will
see what happens.
Gaspar ran a great race but
we got everything wrong for
him today. We tried to hold
him up which we won't do
anymore. He pulled to had
and didn't enjoy it. He was
still in third turning for home
but couldn't find anything
extra after wasting so much
energy early on. He just likes
to go a good gallop all the
way and that is what he will
do from now on win or lose.
He pulled up before the last.
Both horses will now have a
few weeks off as there is no
open for the next three
weeks. They deserve this
little break and will start again
shortly maybe for the Hunter
Chase at Lepordstown.
6 Dec 2009
Ehsan and Top Twig jump the last neck and neck.
|
Ehsan was rated the top
horse of the Autumn season.
He got a rating from the Point
to Point website of 116+.
When we looked back at the
race it was some
performance for a novice
horse. Ehsan was only
having his third run over
fences and it was such a
good race with the winners of
over 100 races between
them involved. He is still a
young horse at only seven
and can only improve from
more experience over
fences. In his three runs so
far he has been placed first,
second & third and he may
be a bit unlucky not to have
won all three. The jockeys
thought he would have won
both of the other races only
for mistakes three out. We
will see how he progresses in
his next few runs but we
could be thinking of the Fox
Hunters at Cheltenham. The
trip would be ideal for him 3m
3f and the uphill finish as he
gallops all day. He will just
need more schooling as the
fences are very big and tricky
over there.
8 Dec 2009
We will be heading to
England very soon with three
or four horses. They will be
going over for flat races on
the all weather. At the
moment we are just looking
for suitable races and the
four we are thinking of
sending across the Irish sea
are Enigma Code, Time
Travel, Breezed Well &
Carton Lady. They are all
going well at home and
should have good chances.
8 Dec 2009
It has been a very difficult
time for everyone here at
Hilltop lately. The weather
has been crazy and it has
been hard to get the horses
out on the gallops. We have
been taking them away as
much as possible. We have
had a lot of horses entered
recently but no joy in getting
them to run. I suppose it is
the same for everyone. All we
can do is keep entering and
hoping for this cold snap to
pass as soon as possible. It
hasn't been a great start to
the year but it can only get
better from here.
8 Jan 2010
It is all systems go for
Gaspar. He will be heading to
Aintree in April after another
great display at Tinahely
yesterday. He came back to
his best when beating a good
field in the Open. That was
his fifth win of the season so
he can only win one more
Open before he is banned.
We may go with him again in
two weeks and then a Hunter
Chase at Lepordstown
before freshening him up for
the biggest race of both his
and our lives. We think he will
jump round those big fences
and the distance will be
perfect on a flat track like
Aintree.
We had four other runners
yesterday but no joy. They
will all come on a great deal
for the run as it has been
hard to get enough work into
them with the weather we
have had. They gallop is
perfect again and we will be
getting stuck into all the
horses from now on.
Especially the new two years
old which have come in three
weeks ago.
18 Jan 2010
Everyone at Hilltop would like
to say congratulations to
Mark who is a friend and also
owns the Rockview gallops
we use sometimes. He had a
good winner yesterday at
Thurles. Will Jamie Run won
the Rock Of Cashel chase
very easy. He made all and
may head for the Irish
National now. We all wish
Mark the best and hope Will
Jamie Run puts up a good
performance in the National if
that's what they decide to go
for.
19 Jan 2010
Ehsan who finished 4th to
Gaspar last Sunday was very
sore yesterday. He has hurt
his back in the race and we
will have someone look at
him today. We hope it wont
stop his training for long as
we still want to aim him at the
Fox Hunters at the
Cheltenham festival. The
course on Sunday was too
tight for him as he wants a
big galloping track and this
was not his true running. He
didn't jump well and was
never really traveling like he
did in his last race.
Mo Chailin Eile ran a good
race. It was her first ever run
and we were delighted to see
how well she jumped. She
pulled up two fences from
home after been up there all
the way. She will run up North
on Saturday week and we
expect her to go very well.

First Ride For a Long Time
|
Damien English who rides out
at Hilltop everyday enjoyed
his first ride in a long time at
Tinahely last Sunday. He
rode and trained Border
Quaich and had a good spin.
He pulled up late on but
Damien had a great time. He
had to sit tight a few times
but to his credit he done
really well. Both horse and
jockey will come on for the
race fitness wise and Damien
is looking forward to getting
back out there for his next
ride as soon as possible.
